Two years later, a new iPod Touch is coming
It seemed forgotten, but all indications are that it is not. Apple is working on a new iPod touch, according to some rumours, all over the internet. There are reports that go further and state that the brand will release the device soon.
By "soon", it means during the autumn of 2021 — information that can also be found in some Apple reports. If confirmed, the new iPod touch is expected to be completely redesigned and have better features.
iPod touch expected in autumn
It was in 2019 when Apple launched the last iPod touch. Equipped with a new camera and available in different colours, this device was mainly aimed at a younger audience.
Basically, the iPod touch delivers everything an iPhone delivers, with the exception of being able to make and receive calls and messages. This is a definition that will remain with the new release, thus making the eighth generation of the gadget.
In terms of design, you can expect major changes. The first has to do with the squared edges, revived from the iPhone 12. Apple is thus abandoning the curved look it has adopted in recent years to return to its origins.
Faster and better performance
The iPod touch should maintain its very clear objective: to be a cheaper device that generally does everything the iPhone does. Having started as a device for listening to music (MP4 style), the iPod has grown ever since.
After adopting a touch screen, the device brought with it more functionalities. In addition to incorporating a camera, it also allowed the installation of practically all applications available in the App Store.
Now, with the new release, the iPod touch may bring new colours, as well as more advanced components — something that is almost certain, given that this has always been the company's policy.
It is unlikely that this eighth generation will include the Apple M1, the first processor developed by the brand. But it is certain that it will include a much faster one, for improved use (more efficient than the previous A10 Fusion).
It remains to be seen whether the launch will be closer to autumn 2021 or not. However, it is almost certain that the new iPod touch will see the light of day soon.
