Apple and Samsung lead smartphone sales in Portugal

Did you buy a Samsung smartphone or an iPhone earlier this year? You might say you own one of the market leaders in smartphone sales in Portugal! Purchases of these devices grew 21% in the first quarter of 2022, with Samsung and Apple leading the chart.

Apple and Samsung lead in Portugal

The data for the first three months of this year is clear: Portuguese consumers are buying more smartphones. 680,000 smartphones were sold, representing a 21% growth compared to the same period last year.

Samsung confirms its leadership of recent years, with a market share of 47%, compared to 29% recorded in the first quarter of 2021. This data corresponds to 316,000 units sold.

However, the increase in smartphone sales in Portugal is also due to Apple. Samsung and Apple are the only two brands that grew this quarter. The North American giant sold 110,000 units, increasing its market share to 16%.

Together, Samsung and Apple now hold 63% of the national market in terms of units. If we consider the percentage by value, the market share is even higher: 76%.

Xiaomi loses market share

In recent years, Xiaomi had been experiencing growth that was interrupted at the beginning of 2022. The Chinese tech company sold 146.8 thousand smartphones, lowering its market share to 22%. In the first quarter of 2021, it held 27%, with 152.9 thousand smartphones sold.

But Xiaomi is not the only one losing ground. TCL and Oppo also sold fewer units, and the "Others" category, which combines the remaining brands, saw a decrease in numbers.

What are the best-selling models?

The top 5 best-selling smartphones between January and March this year are also led by Apple and Samsung, as expected.

iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max occupy the first two places on the podium, followed by the Galaxy A12. In 4th and 5th place are the iPhone 13 Pro and the Galaxy A32. You can buy some of the most popular refurbished models in excellent quality at iSell.
