But what are MagSafe accessories and what are they for?
MagSafe accessories have just been launched as an add-on for the iPhone 12. Essentially, these accessories combine both charging and mounting systems simultaneously.
In other words, this means you can now charge your iPhone while it's attached to any holder. But there's (much) more behind this new concept.
MagSafe: what it means
"Mag" comes from "Magnet". It is through a series of new electronic components, installed inside the iPhone, that the system is built, allowing for greater security and contributing to the maintenance of the smartphone's battery life.
The system was built with the "ideal" connection point in mind between the iPhone and a wireless charging station. With MagSafe, when you connect your smartphone to that station, you ensure that the iPhone will never be improperly connected.
The truth is, this happens more often than it should. It's very common for iPhones, even if it doesn't seem like it, to end up poorly connected to the station, which drastically reduces charging speed.
Now, the magnetic elements included in the new MagSafe accessories ensure fast and secure charging.
The MagSafe accessories
Apple launched a distinctive range of MagSafe accessories. These include protective cases, wallets (which "stick" to the back of the iPhone), and wireless chargers.
For the first time, the brand did not go ahead with the iconic leather cases, but promised that they would arrive soon. For now, there are many colours in silicone that already include MagSafe technology.
They also come in clear, for those who prefer it. However, what remained in leather were the wallets, perfect for carrying banknotes or cards, without the risk of demagnetisation.
MagSafe compatibility
For now, MagSafe accessories are only available for the new iPhone 12 models, which means that refurbished iPhones are not compatible with this technology.
Apple has yet to confirm, so it remains to be seen if the accessories will cover previous models of the brand. What is confirmed is that, from now on, charging is much safer, faster, and preserves the iPhone's battery life.
