Apple's iOS has grown 6% in recent years
The rivalry between Apple and Android is long-standing. The two operating systems compete for market dominance in the smartphone sector. But, according to the latest information, Apple is winning this battle, gaining market share directly from Android.
Over the last five years, the Android mobile operating system has lost 8% of its market share. In comparison, Apple's iOS has grown by 6.09%.

Apple is gaining market share from Android
The data comes from a recent report by StockApps, revealing that the Android operating system's presence has declined over the last five years. If in 2018 this system held 77.32% of the market, in January of this year the value dropped to just over 69%. Despite still being the most popular mobile operating system worldwide, Android has lost 7.58% of its market presence.
And to whom did Android lose ground? Exactly, to Apple's iOS. This operating system saw its share increase from 19.4% to 25.49%, a gain of 6.09%. Thus, a large part of Android's loss represents iOS's growth.
Together, iOS and Apple dominate the market. Currently, 7 out of 10 smartphones are equipped with one of these operating systems.
iOS dominates the North American market
The report also reveals curious data regarding the geographical distribution of the most popular operating systems. While Android dominates in Europe, Apple is the queen of North America.
Despite being more widely used in most countries, Android's geographical strength varies. If we travel to Asian regions or South America, Google's system is on 81% and 90% of devices. Conversely, in these locations, iOS is only on 18% and 10% respectively. In Africa, Android is on 84% of smartphones and in Europe on 69.3%.
Only in North America and Oceania does Apple emerge victorious, with a 54% share in both markets. Android has almost 45%, and the remaining operating systems less than 1%.
